Hamburg/München/Darmstadt: Sunnic Lighthouse GmbH, a subsidiary of Hamburg-based ENERPARC AG, and Fair Trade Power GmbH have signed a solar PPA (power purchase agreement): From January 1, 2024, until December 31, 2028, Sunnic will supply around 22.4 GWh of solar power annually based on a pay-as-forecasted structure, i.e., a forecast delivery schedule for the following day. The end consumer is Fair Trade Power customer Alnatura. Starting next year, the organic food retailer will supply its approximately 150 stores at various locations in Germany and its headquarters in Darmstadt with 100% green electricity.
Fair Trade Power customers benefit from stable prices and the lower costs of renewable energies through direct purchase agreements. To this end, Fair Trade Power enters into partnerships with plant operators and purchases green electricity directly from the regions instead of via the electricity exchange.
Coralie Spitzner, Managing Director of Fair Trade Power: “We are delighted to have Sunnic as another partner with whom we can drive forward the energy transition. This contract structure enables us to guarantee our customer Alnatura a stable electricity price – which is an important building block for the widespread provision of emission-free energy.”
Arved von Harpe, Managing Director of Sunnic Lighthouse, adds: “We are completely flexible in the design of contractual arrangements. Whether short, medium, or long term – with our experience, our systems, and our green electricity trading portfolio of over 3 gigawatts, we are able to offer solutions tailored to specific needs. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with Fair Trade Power.”
The electricity is generated by two photovoltaic systems already installed and connected to the grid by the parent company ENERPARC AG. The two solar parks are located in Landsberg, Saxony-Anhalt, and in Wiesau, Bavaria. Alnatura has its headquarters in Darmstadt, approximately 400 km away.
Alnatura Managing Director Alexander Hüge comments: “As a company that exclusively produces and distributes organic food, sustainable and climate-friendly practices are a matter of course for Alnatura. We are therefore very pleased that Fair Trade Power will be supplying us with green electricity generated at two locations in Germany starting next year. Together with our partners, we are thus making an active contribution to the energy transition.”
